Wilderness First Aid Advanced

$200
Provides information on how to handle common injuries and illnesses when medical care is an hour away or more. Designed for those who work or travel in remote locations, these comprehensive classes will teach you what to look for and what to do in the event of an emergency, and direct you to the most appropriate type of care. We recommend taking Introduction to Wilderness Backpacking to understand how to prevent the need for Wilderness First Aid.

Day 1
Introduction to the course, preparing for the outdoors, vital systems and shock Wounds, burns, bleeding control, and infection Bandaging practice Patient assessment Bones and joints, mechanism of injury, handling fractures Herbal Medicine Splinting fractures Treating sprains and dislocations Assessing head and spinal injury Thermoregulation, heat illness, hypothermia, frostbite, dressing for survival Altitude illness, lightning strike, sun exposure Medical problems in the wilderness Bugs, snakes, bears, and Contaminated water
Day 2
Hands-on drills and medical response scenarios. Gunshot Trauma & Lacerations Wild Herbal Medicine First Aid Equipment, selection, packing & organization
Wilderness First Aid Advanced is a 20- hour course for those who are involved in serious wilderness activities, and is the choice of many wilderness trip leaders and guides. The additional class day includes more hands on scenarios, and much more in depth information and expansion upon all subjects covered in Wilderness First Aid Basic class.
